The Hollywood & Mr. W series meets the FCC's Children's Television Act which help broadcasts meet Core Programming requirements. The Children's Television Act requires U.S. broadcast television stations to air programming specifically designed to serve the educational and informational (E/I Programming) needs of children. It also limits the amount of time broadcasters, cable operators, and satellite providers can devote to advertisements during children's programs. The Hollywood & Mr. W series is dedicated to offering truly educational content to address broadcaster requirements.

According to CASEL

What is Social Emotional Learning?

"We define social and emotional learning (SEL) as an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions."

"SEL advances educational equity and excellence through authentic school-family-community partnerships to establish learning environments and experiences that feature trusting and collaborative relationships, rigorous and meaningful curriculum and instruction, and ongoing evaluation. SEL can help address various forms of inequity and empower young people and adults to co-create thriving schools and contribute to safe, healthy, and just communities."

"SEL can help all young people and adults thrive personally and academically, develop and maintain positive relationships, become lifelong learners, and contribute to a more caring, just world."

EdSurge Reports

Why are Non-Cognitive skills important post-COVID?

"Research has shown a direct link between students’ mental health and their academic performance. A student’s emotional well-being plays a critical role in their academic engagement, motivation and relationships. SEL interventions have been proven to bolster students’ emotional intelligence while reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety."

"Studies also show that SEL programs help students more effectively manage stress and depression, support self-esteem and encourage positive attitudes about school—ultimately improving academic outcomes."

"Earlier this year, studies confirmed what many educators already knew: Students have suffered substantial academic setbacks resulting from the pandemic. Research from McKinsey revealed that, on average, K-12 students lost up to four months of mathematics and four months of reading progress in the last school year."

According to CASEL

What is the Framework behind SEL?

"SEL can help address various forms of inequity and empower young people and adults to co-create thriving schools and contribute to safe, healthy, and just communities."

"SEL advances educational equity and excellence through authentic school-family-community partnerships to establish learning environments and experiences that feature trusting and collaborative relationships, rigorous and meaningful curriculum and instruction, and ongoing evaluation."

"Students’ social, emotional, and cognitive developmental levels and age-appropriate tasks and challenges should inform the design of SEL standards, instruction, and assessment."

EdSurge Reports

Funding SEL programs is easy!

"Consensus around the importance of SEL is further evidenced in states’ federal funding plans where SEL initiatives feature prominently. While educators deemed SEL a top priority, the report found that only one percent of schools included SEL in their budgets. With funds dedicated to SEL interventions, federal aid will help to correct this discord."

Federal aid will allow schools to fund essential SEL programs but support from like-minded companies can also offer exciting opportunites for those companies to collaborate on the development of SEL content.

EdSurge Reports

Underserved Communities

"Overcoming these barriers is crucial for our schools—enabling them to both address pandemic-related learning loss and overcome deep-seated educational inequities. Students from marginalized communities are more likely to experience emotional distress associated with poverty, racism and discrimination."

"SEL can help schools foster a culture of understanding and acceptance. It can also be used as a framework for understanding bias and affirming the full spectrum of student cultures and identities. With ongoing evaluation and improvement, SEL programs can propel schools toward more equitable outcomes."

"With a strong SEL program in place, schools can address learning loss while reframing the achievement gap through a new, more nuanced lens for an equitable future."
